Setting the Agenda:

Communication plays important role in our society and media is an effective motivator in changing views and perspective of the people. Mass media determine what we think and what we worry about. Sometimes mass media may not be successful in telling to the public what to think, but they are successful in telling to the public what to think about.
The ability of the media to influence the visibility of events in the public mind. Good example for this situation is the political issue in our country. Because 2010 election is fast approaching and media had much greater capacity to influence the public.
As I remember to the phrase of Marshall Mcluhan “the medium is the message” as a means of explaining how the distribution of message can often be more important than the content of the message itself. Our family always listen to DZRH and sometimes we are highly influence to the opinion they are given depending upon the issue that our close to our interests
Agenda setting main concept is salience transfer. Salience issue is the ability of the mass media to transfer issues of importance from their mass media agendas to public agendas.

Diffusing Information and Innovation

What do you believe to be the root cause of the crisis the world is in today? If we said that the root cause is the unstoppable greed for power and money of world leaders and also man’s inhumanity and disregard for man and environment. That is the public opinion in that particular issue based to what we learn from the mass media.
Sharing of information is Diffusion of Innovation theory. It describes how innovation is disseminated and communicated through certain channels over a period a time.
Diffusion of innovation in communication occurs when an individual communicates a new idea to one or several others. For example another people may say that the root cause of the crisis the world is in today is the diversity of people, culture, traditions, religion, beliefs, persuasions and interests. Another may say war, war, war and more war is the root cause. It is on how the public observe and adopt it.
Diffusion of information is the spread of new ideas through channel and how they influence the public about it.

Defining Social Support

Low levels of peer acceptance or high levels of peer rejection that is why we have this theory- the spiral of silence.
People would not feel free to speak up if they feel they hold dissenting views, which means people restrict themselves to having conversation with like-minded individuals.
Fear of harming others, or fear to get harmed oneself, there are factors that inhibit people from speaking freely, and which thus results in a non-ideal type of discussion.
It is on how we can get over to this isolation when you choose to remain silent or decide to express their views.
Example of this is the group discussion given by a professor. Some may share their ideas. Some may not. Maybe because they are shy to express their own views.
This is the values of society. There is social approval and disapproval of views or actions.
